4 Baseball Tips to Improve Your Hitting

Written By: happycamper

It’s been commonly said that hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in sports. With a good understanding of the fundamentals and a lot of practice, even the youngest and most inexperienced players can find success.

Here are 4 Essential Tips to Refine Your Hitting Skills:

Hitters need a solid grip on the bat to maintain control throughout the swing. Keep your high knuckles in line to make sure your fingertips, not your palms, are controlling the swing. If your lower knuckles begin to align, your palms are controlling your grip and you are restricting your range of motion.

Find a stance that works for you

There are a number of different stances that you can find success using, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable in your stance. Some hitters prefer to keep an open stance and others prefer a closed stance, but it’s simply a matter of personal preference.

Establish a shift in your weight

Before the pitch arrives, you want to shift your weight onto your back foot. This will help you time the pitch as it’s in the air and give you an extra burst of power when you reshift your weight onto your front foot as you swing.

Follow through over your shoulders

As you make contact with the ball, keep the barrel of the bat moving forward through the ball and over your shoulders. This will give your swing much more power. If you find your follow-through ending at your waist, you haven’t swung to your full potential.

Next time you’re practicing hitting at the ballpark, focus on these tips. By concentrating on your grip, stance, weight shift, and follow-through, you can improve your swing and begin to hit the baseball with more power, accuracy, and consistency!
