Benefits of Learning Music for Kids

Written By: happycamper

Why kids should learn music

When it comes to your kids’ activities there are so many out there that have more benefits than just keeping them busy. Learning how to play music is one of them. Whether your child already has an interest or is just becoming interested in music, you’ll be happy to know there are some real-life benefits that will last well after their lesson is over.

At Happy Camper Live we offer several music camps to get children involved and interested in all that music has to offer. Let’s take a look at how learning music can benefit your child.

What happens when kids learn music?

They learn to multi-task.

Think about when you watch and listen to someone play music. Their fingers are not just moving along the instrument nor is their voice just belting out tunes. There are multiple things going on at once. They’re multitasking in a big way. Musicians are taking in what they’re reading and telling their hands to move to produce the sound. The same thing goes for singers. As they’re reading the music, their brain must figure out how to make their voice make the right sounds. We all know that multi-tasking is a skill you can use throughout your life.

They improve their language skills.

Studies show that musical training can boost language skills. This is because music helps to develop the left side of the brain that is responsible for language.

Their brain works harder.

Researchers have found that the brains of musicians work harder than those of non-musicians. They say that when you play an instrument you have to use more of your brain to get the melodious result.

They can solve multi-step problems better.

There has also been research linking a child’s ability to solve multi-step problems with playing music. Researchers say learning music improves what’s referred to as spatial-temporal skills. These come in handy to solve multi-step problems kids will find in math, engineering, computers, and other areas.

Their motor and coordination skills will improve.

Playing certain instruments can help to improve a child’s motor skills. Not only do they have to be able to move their hands differently at the same time in order to play certain instruments, but at times they also have to learn how to be comfortable in awkward positions. Holding a violin or guitar can feel awkward at first until a child learns how to adapt their body to hold the instrument better.

What music skills can my child learn at Happy Camper Live?

The great thing about Happy Camper Live is that your child can be exposed to musical areas they may never have been introduced to otherwise. At Happy Camper Live we offer a variety of music camps. There are videos to help children work on their vocal skills as well as learn guitar chords. They can even learn how to write songs.

Other instruments we cover in our music camps include the ukulele and the drums. Listen to your child play some great beats after listening to one of our videos. If your child doesn’t get it all during the first round, no worries. They can replay the video as many times as they need to. Our videos are short enough and easy to follow so your child won’t get bored or frustrated.

Isn’t it time to get your child in tune with all of the benefits music has to offer? If you’re ready to check out our music camps and a wide variety of other activities, get your Happy Camper Live subscription today.
