Bring Summer Camp Indoors This Winter

Written By: happycamper

As the seasons change from a crisp fall to a cold winter, you might be wondering how to keep your kids entertained indoors all winter. Outdoor time is still good to work in, but with it so cold, in some places it’s not an option for long stretches of time. There are many activities we do at summer camp that can also be done at home during the winter.

Here are 3 ways to bring summer camp activities indoors this winter.

Get Creative

Kids love the freedom to create something with their hands. Build an arts and crafts box with variety, so when kids want to make something they have supplies on hand. Some basics include white and colored construction paper, scissors, glue, markers and crayons. Depending on their interest in art you could add painting supplies, beads, or even clay.

Over at our arts and crafts camp kids will learn to make bracelets, slime, hair ties and more.

You can usually find craft supplies for cheap at your local dollar store, or check a neighborhood buy nothing group to see if you can score some lightly used supplies for free.

An easy winter craft is to glue popsicle sticks together to make snowflakes. Paint them and add glitter to make them sparkle. Hang them around your home or on a tree in your yard. Share them with your friends and neighbors to bring some winter cheer.

Learn A New Instrument

Winter is a great time to put in the work to learn a new instrument. Your kids will have lots of time to practice when they’re not outside, and then when springtime emerges they can show off their new talents to their family and friends. Learning an instrument takes practice and persistence. Get inspired with one of our music camps. Choose from percussion, guitar, singing, ukulele, keyboard and violin.

Stay Activekids doing yoga

Basketball, soccer and football aren’t ideal indoor activities, but there are many other ways to stay active indoors. Help your kids burn off their excess energy by getting moving at least once a day. Yoga is a great activity that requires little space. Kids will learn to breathe and find balance. This will also help them learn to focus, which can translate to their academic studies.

Strength training is another activity that will challenge your kids physically, and you can jump in too. There are tons of bodyweight exercises they can do in an open room, such as power jumps, pushups, sit-ups and more. Trade off making up fun routines and turn up the music while you sweat.

Dancing is a fun way to move. Groove and glide across the floor with hip hop glides, learn toe tapping or make up your own choreographed family dance to your favorite song. Have fun with it, and your kids will too!
